The Nyone Family // Lifestyle Maternity Session in Southern Oregon
“Sometimes, when you pick up your child, you can feel the map of your own bones beneath your hands, or smell the scent of your skin in the nape of his neck. This is the most extraordinary thing about motherhood ‒ finding a piece of yourself separate and apart, that all the same, you could not live without.” ‒ Jodi Picoult
What do I aim to capture in maternity sessions? A lot of my photography style is filled with movement and light, and I love to infuse parts of that into all my sessions! This sweet mom and dad were wonderful to work with, and so ready to meet their newest family member. They have an easy camaraderie that I know will serve them so beautifully as parents, when teamwork is a necessity!
If you’re an expecting parent, scheduling your maternity session is an important step, and something you don’t want to leave for the last second. Babies arrive when they want, so don’t wait until your due date to make sure you capture these moments. When planning your maternity session, here are a few things that are helpful to consider:
-Aim for between 25 and 35 weeks for the time when you’ll feel your best: Many women don’t begin showing till later in the pregnancy, but 25 weeks usually gives you enough of a baby bump if you prefer a time on the earlier side. Around 35 weeks, many women begin to feel more fatigued and can experience things like swelling or sciatica pain (IYKYK, am I right?!). Placing your session between these two timeframes can help you feel your best for your maternity session.
-Communicate with your photographer (me!): Being a mom myself, I know that pregnancies are full of surprises, and complications and early deliveries certainly happen. If this is the case for you and your sweet family, please communicate with me so we can help you find the best solution! I also know that many families become parents through surrogacy or adoption, so please know that we can work together to celebrate those occasions as well.
-Wear clothes you feel comfortable in: Every mama wants to feel beautiful, but you also want to consider your spouse and how they’ll feel. Choose breathable, comfortable clothing for both of you, and be sure everything is freshly steamed and pressed. When choosing your shoes, also opt for shoes you can easily walk in, and consider whether you’re walking across dirt, rocks, or grass. For spouses, nice quality neutrals are always a safe choice, including colors like khaki, navy, black, olive green, and beige.
If you have any questions about your upcoming session, please let me know! I’d love to walk you through the process and make it seamless for you!
