Dreamy Dresses for your Family or Couples Shoot!

The aspect of outfits is one of the trickiest things for my clients who have family or couple's sessions! It can be really hard to find something flattering, affordable, and that will photograph beautifully. Certain fabrics and styles work best, and I wanted to put together this little guide for you ladies who are trying to find that perfect dress! I've even included some options for the little ladies in your life!-The flowing maxi dress: This cold shoulder, pleated mauve dress is beautiful and classy. The off the shoulder cut and stylish faux wrap styling makes it a cinch for the gal who wants something polished but not too flashy. If you want something a bit more conservative that you can move around in (like you mamas of little ones), you may check out this lacy, pleated version from ASOS. ASOS is a great option for dresses, because it has petite, tall, and maternity styles that are all very stylish and around $100 and under.-The sundress: For a more casual session, a pretty sundress is just the ticket to feeling fun and youthful! This adorable JCrew number is everything: floral, ruffled, and with a faux wrap front that flatters multiple body types. Want to cover a bit more leg? You can opt for something like this: a midi length, flirty drapey sundress that is a gorgeous coral color that stands out wonderfully against a summer tan!-The unique, boho dress: Feeling free spirited? Free People is one of our favorite brands for dresses with interesting cuts and special details. Sometimes, they require special undergarments (low back bras, strapless bras, etc.), but if you're adventurous when it come to fashion, you may check out their website. We like this plunging, linen look maxi dress with white embroidery.-The fancy, formal dress: If you're envisioning something a bit more fancy, Adrianna Pappell has a line of more pricy but equally stunning gowns. This sequin version is a favorite among photographers, because of the fun shimmer aspect and the short, flattering sleeves. You can check out her full line of dresses and amazing gowns here.-The rented, designer dress: Maybe renting a dress strikes fear into your heart, but it's actually a great way to get the designer look for an affordable price, especially if you're only wearing it for your portrait session. Rent the Runway carries tons of pricey gowns (think $200-$600 price points), that they rent for $80-$150 each. If you have your heart set on a particular style, it might be the way to achieve it without owning such a luxury piece.-For your little girls: We recently discovered this darling website for little girl dresses! Dottie Darling has boutique styles at a much lower price, and has plenty of the Instagram-worthy linen look tops and tunics that are so popular right now. JCrew is a fail-proof site for moms and babies, if you need something quickly, and without much fuss, and Zulily carries lots of boutique style girls dresses, if you are willing to wait on their longer shipping times. If you are wondering what else might be best for family photos, you can always ask me, too! I love helping guide clients to their perfect styles and what to wear, and can always offer insight if you need it!
